Telly

I don't get to watch a lot of television these days, mostly because I am too busy but also because there isn't very much worth watching. I like to watch The Bill now and then, but it is normally on when Betty is out and I am putting the kids to bed. Other than that I have been known to watch Cage Rage sometimes, as I have always had a love for martial arts, and now I am too decrepit to practise them any more I still enjoy watching skilful practitioners in combat. I also love to watch rugby, but that isn't on very often.

The only programs I would pay money to watch are Lost and Heroes, and Betty and I enjoy watching them together and afterwards discussing and trying to make sense of the impossible plots. You can imagine the disappointment therefore when after the 2nd season of Lost Channel 4 stopped showing it and it went onto Sky! We have not had Sky TV for a few years now due to financial constraints - I have been reinvesting much of my income into my business in order to build it up and we haven't had a lot of spare cash for the last few years. That means that Lost Season 3 has been and gone and we have missed it all. Well enough was enough, and as we now have 8Mb broadband I decided that, as we really couldn't justify spending a lot of money on the Season 3 box set, I would have a go at downloading it onto the computer. After getting the appropriate software I managed to get all the episodes and we are now ploughing through them at our leisure. To transfer an episode to DVD using the software we have available would take several hours , and there are a lot of episodes, therefore we pull up a couple of chairs in front of the computer and watch an episode now and again when the kids are in bed and we are not too busy (I tend to do a lot of work at night - a curse of working from home!). Although now middle-aged I still feel a childlike excitement as I load an episode up. It is such a good show and so well-acted. I guess it also helps that most of the cast could be super-models if they gave up acting - a bit of eye-candy never hurts!

As for Heroes, it took us both a little while to get into it. It wasn't until several episodes in, when they had a flashback episode, that it started to make sense. This is because there are so many characters and plotlines, as well as timelines. It also helped our understanding to be able to read the episode guides on the internet. Like I say, it took a little while but we are now well and truly addicted. I find myself having to work hard to resist the temptation to read the Series 2 episode guides, as several episodes have already aired elsewhere in the world, but I shall resist so I can get full enjoyment from watching it without knowing the outcome whenever it returns over here. I am glad that Sylar managed to crawl away despite having been skewered by a samurai sword, as he has to be one of the best bad guys ever, and it looks like he will return.

I have just had a look at the Christmas TV guide and I think I will be avoiding the telly even more than I normally do - there is hardly anything on that interests me. Luckily I have many other things to do!
