Sarah Morgan's Knickers

Don't panic - it's nothing unwholesome, merely a reminiscence from my younger days. Mark Twain said "There has been much tragedy in my life; at least half of it actually happened". As my memory of far gone days seems to be going the same way as his I have decided to chronicle some experiences from my life when it was a touch more interesting before age dims the light of memory too much.

This story dates back to my mid 20's, so we are talking probably around 1980 or thereabouts. One beautiful sunny summer's day I was driving along the M4 in South Wales on my way to the beach. There were about 4 or 5 car loads of us, all playing the cassette of Meat Loaf's Bat Out Of Hell at full volume as we tore down the highway, passing sweets between cars at 80 mph (note: kids - do not try this at home - it is stupid to the point of insanity and just because I survived it doesn't mean that you will!). We were all wearing our swimming cossies & shorts, so therefore we all had rolled up towels containing clean underwear to change into. Sarah Morgan, who was one of my passengers that day, accidentally dropped her towel in the car, causing her clean underwear to fall out of it. Not a good move in a car full of people in the holiday mood and full of youthful exuberance. Before you could blink an eyelid the knickers had been passed to me and hung on the car aerial which was conveniently located on the drivers side front wing, and therefore within easy reach. Oh how we laughed to see her smalls flying in the wind like a flag. Oh how surprised we were when a motorbike came from nowhere and the rider snatched them from the aerial and rode away with them! Needless to say we never saw them again. I don't seem to remember Sarah Morgan seeing the funny side at the time, if she ever did, but it was a moment that will live in my memory forever! Happy days.
