I'm Getting Too Old For This!

I'm turning into a grumpy old man more and more as time goes on, but sometimes with reason. Yesterday I had a young band booked into my studio to record all day. I had previously impressed upon them 3 things: 1) that they must turn up on time (this is something which musicians always need reminding of!), 2) that they should be well-rehearsed, and 3) that they needed to remove the front skin of their bass drum for me to be able to get a decent recorded sound from it. Well they weren't late by much - only about 10 or 15 minutes, so that wasn't too bad. Unfortunately, although they brought their own drums with them (they had insisted on using their own kit rather than my studio kit) the drummer hadn't actually arrived yet. They managed to get hold of him on his mobile phone, and apparently he was over a mile away, walking over here as if he had all the time in the world. Someone's Dad was despatched to fetch him, as setting up the drums is the first task on the agenda, not to mention the most time-consuming. When I asked where the rhythm guitarist was I was told that apparently he couldn't be bothered turning up. At this point words completely failed me, and I had to go off and watch TV for 10 minutes to calm down while they set up, as I was getting extremely annoyed with them! Fortunately, once we got up and running we had a good session and they are very happy with the songs they recorded, but I find myself still in shock at their attitude. If I had been going into a recording studio for the first time, as they were, and especially at their age, I would have been so excited that I would have hardly been able to sleep. Yet these kids could hardly muster the enthusiasm to drag themselves out of bed and turn up. Is it because, unlike in my day, everything comes so easily to them, as in they only have to ask their parents and they get it? I don't know and I certainly don't understand. Oh, I forgot to mention that, despite the session having been planned many weeks ahead, and despite my recommending that they rehearse hard, they apparently wrote the lyrics of one song the night before! Yes, I know - I am definitely getting too old for it all! I'll stop ranting now. Thank you for listening.
